It’s time to get out and enjoy the weather. Summer brings many possibilities for extending your space. Your deck regardless of size becomes a comfy retreat. Complete the look with a wall of plants. How about using your deck railing as a plant wall for your colorful annuals. Add a few chairs, pillows and just like that, an outside retreat comes to life.
If container gardening is your jam, place your containers in a partial shade location. Too much sun will burn your plant. If you only have full sun then you will need to check your container. If you see that your plant has wilted, move it on to your deck, garage, anywhere where the plant can get a break from the sun. Give it water. Place a plate underneath to catch the dripping water. This happens when your plant is in shock and the roots are not picking up the water. All container plants need water every day. If that seems impossible with your schedule there are new container pots that are self-watering. Too expensive? Then take an empty water bottle, fill it up and then insert it into the soil of your container. This will allow a gradual release of water each day. Whatever method you choose, make sure the container plants are watered daily in the early morning or later at night after the sun has set. Watering during the heat of the day trains the roots to come looking for water during the day which will, in turn, burn your plant.
Enjoy your reclaimed outdoor space this summer. Decorate with plants and you will reap a bountiful crop of flowers and vegetables.
